Dr. Mihaela Zăvolan

Trained as a medical doctor (MD from UMF Timisoara) and computerscientist (PhD from the University of New Mexico), I then carried outpostdoctoral work at the Rockefeller University, first on the analysisof the first assemblies of mouse and human genomes, then on theprediction, identification and functional characterization of microRNAs. I then joined the University of Basel as a systemsbiologist. My group, composed of both experimental and computationalscientists, studies various aspects of gene expression control, viaRNA processing and translation, in normal and disease conditions.
